Parents are usually searching for a nice place so they don't have to cook, serve, and clean up after the family for the night. It usually has to be located fairly close to the home, open early enough to not cause wailing from hungry kids, and have a menu suited to the smaller portion sizes and appetites of children. Finding kid friendly restaurants can be a lot harder than it seems given all of the criteria above.
There are always the standard options of the fast food chains (not very satisfying for the parents), diner type restaurants (usually pretty bland food choices), or pancake houses (how many times can you eat breakfast in a day?). These are not appealing choices to most parents.
A suggestion is to look to Virginia Highlands and Pozole Restaurant. It is relatively new among midtown restaurants, but is located close to many parts of Atlanta. It has won several awards for food and drinks, but opens for dinner at 5:30 pm most nights and welcomes kids. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, so the kids don't have to sit silent on their hands for the entire time. The customer service is fantastic so the parents will not have a problem with any little special changes the kids may request. The Latino food is terrific for the parents and an adventure for the children. Most of the dishes on the great kids menu will be new to the children, but they are all tasty. The kids may gain a better and wider appreciation of food beyond hamburgers and hot dogs in Pozole or other Latino kid friendly restaurants.
Pozole Restaurant is among the midtown restaurants in Virginia Highlands. It is about three miles from each part of Atlanta and is easily reachable. Many other neighborhoods are located within five miles as well, including Inman Park, Candler Park, and Decatur to name but a few. Sports events for the professional teams are less than five miles distant and college campuses such as Georgia Tech are about the same.
Location, location, location may be the watchword of the real estate business, but for Pozole it means that all of Atlanta can come get the Mexican-Latino experience.
